While Chateauneuf du Pape is the admitted King of the Southern Rhone Valley, there are other great quality appellations in the Southern Rhone that are making really great wine. The region has flared in recognition in the late 1990’s. It’s arguable nowadays to say that the Cotes du Rhone is the best wine region in the world that provides truly sublime character driven wines at fair prices. Moreover, it is an opportunity to tread a land where the culture of the vine goes back to antiquity until 2nd century BC.

Gigondas wine tours.

Gigondas is an tremendous region that makes significant wines of quality, and most of the time, they are outstanding well priced. Located just north east of Chateauneuf du Pape, the wines can be much the same to those found in Chateauneuf du Pape. The vineyard has been cultivated in Gigondas since the first century BC.

Vacqueyras wine tours.

Vacqueyras is located due south of Gigondas, this appellation offers wines with unparalleled finesse and icomparable freshness. Such a best value is just incredible in the Southern Rhone valley. The Roman colonization allowed the development of vine cultivation in Vacqueyras since the 2nd and 1st century BC.

Rasteau wine tours.

Rasteau is situated just northeast of Chateauneuf du Pape. The vineyard of Rasteau would be born in 30 before JC. The red wines are truly popular and defined by their high percentages of Mourvedre in the blend. This gives this excellent appellation of the southern rhône a particular typicity.

Beaumes de Venise wine tours.

Beaumes des Venise is one of the comparatively little appellation in the Rhone Valley that produces red wine. It is not far from Vacqueyras east of Chateauneuf du Pape. The appellation is also known for producing a remarkable sweet dessert wine, the Muscat de Beaumes de Venise. The village is quite attractive and it still houses one of the oldest ancient Roman Churches built in the 9th century.
